Coolest. Camper. Ever. Contest Finalist #3: Aaron Smith

It’s Friday and we thought we would get psyched for a fun weekend by posting our third and last (but definitely not least) finalist of our Coolest. Camper. Ever. Contest, Aaron Smith. You may remember Aaron from a previous post. Originally from the great big state of Texas, Aaron has seen the beauty of western NC and now calls it home. So here you have it, Aaron’s entry:

“What a grand GO adventure we shall have! Departing our beloved mountains of Western North Carolina, heading west in search of the whitewater that until now, has only been present in dreams. Riverboards and gear stowed nicely, my wife and I embark upon our adventure. Meeting our ‘friends’ that until now we have only known through whitewater videos and trip reports that they have shared with us. Names now have faces. Along the way we’ll make new friends who share our whitewater passion, be it in a raft, kayak, or riverboard like us. We’ll spend our days on the rivers and creeks, our nights gathered around campfires sharing tales of awesome runs and some missed lines too. Colorado is a stop on our trip, meeting our friend Erik to guide us through Gore Canyon, Clear Creek Black Rock section and a few other runs that only the locals know about. Then on to California for some Kern River whitewater with our friend Alex, a board maker and advocate of our sport. After our dizzying dash across the country and back, we’ll make one last detour and stop in for some New River and Gauley action. As the gear is still drying we roll down our driveway, smiles on our faces.”

Sounds like it’s going to be a sweet trip and we’re looking forward to being a part of it! We’ll definitely keep you posted on his adventure, so stay tuned! Happy paddling (boarding)!

SylvanSport Announces New GO Outside and Play Giveaway Contest!

Wow…I guess we love giving away our GO trailers! Recently, we partnered up with the largest RV dealer in the USA, Lazydays, as a SylvanSport retailer. To celebrate, we came up with a new contest to help introduce you to our new friends and give you a chance to bring home your very own GO trailer!

So, who is Lazydays? Back in 1976, a family opened a small business in Tampa, FL with $500, 2 travel trailers, and a dream. Fast forward 36 years and you have the nation’s largest RV dealer, with locations in Tampa, FL and Tucson, AZ. These aren’t just big lots filled with RVs and trailers either. Their Tampa location spans 124 acres, has a team of 492 employees, 221 service bays, 299 campsites and 3 restaurants. In Tucson, you’ll find  yourself on 82 acres with a team of 93 employees, 48 service bays, 384 campsites and a full-service restaurant. To read more about the SylvanSport / Lazydays collaboration, check out this article in RVBusiness.

Now the big question: how do you enter?!? Don’t worry…there are no essays to write, no photos to submit, nothing to buy…just click here or the photo below, enter your info, check any of the boxes you might like, and then the hardest part….wait.

And, as if winning a GO trailer isn’t sweet enough, we’ve put together a gear package from First Ascent, Gerber, Big Agnes, Black Diamond, Gregory Packs, and Yakima to go along with your new trailer.

Now, go enter, spread the word, and good luck!

Coolest. Camper. Ever. Contest Finalist #2: Greg Heil

From horses to bikes, we move on to our 2nd finalist in the Coolest. Camper. Ever. Contest, Greg Heil. You met Greg last week on our blog…student, social media coordinator, and most importantly, avid mountain biker. At SylvanSport, we love moving on 2 wheels, and Greg’s entry made us crave a biking road trip. Here’s what he had to say:

“My ideal GO adventure involves mountain biking… a lot of mountain biking! Next summer, my wife and I are planning on hitting the road and traveling the Rocky Mountains for several months. We plan on spending a significant amount of time in the Northwest. Specifically, we want to visit Bend, Oregon, Bellingham, Washington, Sun Valley, Idaho, Kalispell, Montana, and everywhere in between. Since we have so many friends in Colorado, we’ll probably spend a couple of weeks down there as well.

Part of the impetus for our trip next summer will be for my job, and the other motivating drive will be looking for a place to move. See, I will be graduating college in May 2013, and having spent a year and a half living in northwest Montana, we are itching to move back to the Rockies! Over the course of our road trip we will be looking for the perfect town, a place that we can see ourselves living (and riding) in long-term. Who knows: we might fall in love with a place and just never leave! Having a GO camper to live in for those months would make the entire journey so much more enjoyable!”
We’re looking forward to living vicariously through Greg and his big road trip and are glad to be part of it! This Friday we’ll be posting the 3rd and final entry by Aaron Smith. Come on back and check it out!
Happy riding! Be safe and have fun!

Coolest. Camper. Ever. Contest Finalist #1: Meghan Wolfgram

Last week, we introduced the 3 finalists for our Coolest. Camper. Ever. Adventure Contest and gave you a little background on each of them. I know a lot of you are curious to read their winning entries, so this week, we present you with Meghan Wolfgram’s entry!

“I’d have a howling good time GO’ing across the US (maybe Canada too). My mission: to get people and their dogs going by introducing them to the amazing sport of lure coursing. I’m dog-crazy (must be the *wolf* in my name) and I run local coursing events that get dogs active by letting them chase a lure around a field. I can’t tell who has more fun, the dog or their owner, and it makes for a great day of exercise and socialization. It’s something the entire community can get into. I’d pre-select 10 destination cities and hit the road with my GO, lure course machine, and my little dog, Pretzel. In between stops I’d visit animal shelters to help spread the word about adoption and the importance of responsible pet ownership. Lure coursing is fast, fun, and you’re in control. People love their dogs, but sometimes they just can’t provide the exercise Fido needs. This activity is the best boredom breaker; it’s instant fun – no training involved. Once you and your dog have tried it, you’re hooked, and it’s a great activity to share with your friends and fellow dog-lovers. Hold on to your camper, I’m letting the dogs out!”

There you have it! Meghan’s GO adventure, filled with dogs, advocacy, and lure chasing! We’re psyched to be part of any (well, almost any) adventure, but helping spread the word about being good to your animals friends, makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

We’ll be sharing the other 2 entries in posts to come, so stay  tuned! In the meantime, GO out and find yourself an adventure!

WINNERS OF THE COOLEST CAMPER EVER ADVENTURE CONTEST!!!!

Well, it’s been about 4 months since we wrapped up the Coolest. Camper. Ever. Adventure Contest. In case you forgot or are just now starting to follow along, we asked everyone to come up with their dream adventure, and if given the opportunity, how the SylvanSport GO trailer would be part of that adventure. The number of entries we received was incredible and even more than that, the creative, crazy, inspiring, epic, amazing, and just plain fun ideas that you folks have running through your heads made us psyched about the seemingly endless possibilities of what you can do with our GO trailer.

But alas, we can’t give out a GO to everyone and had to narrow it down to 3 finalists. So, without  further a do, HERE ARE THE 3 WINNERS AND LITTLE BACKGROUND ON EACH:

GREG HEIL: Social Media Coordinator for Singletracks.com and Tripleblaze.com, as well as a contributing blogger for both of those websites. Currently a senior at the University of North Georgia, Greg is pursuing an English degree with an emphasis in Writing and Publication. While Greg enjoys almost everything that has to do with the outdoors, his preferred sport is mountain biking. Having already ridden well over 300 trails in 18 states, he is extremely excited to take the GO camper to the Pacific Northwest next summer and explore some uncharted territory! His lovely wife, Summer, will be accompanying him on the adventure.

AARON SMITH: Hailing from east Texas, Aaron now calls the mountains of North Carolina his home, along with his wife and 4 “wonderful & adventurous” kids. When he is not working as a saute and broil chef at Mount Mitchell State Park Restaurant, Aaron can most likely be found on some of his favorite rivers (Pigeon, Cheoah, New, and Gauley). Along with kayaking, Aaron has recently discovered and developed a passion for riverboarding. While most of his weekends are spent on the water, Aaron is no stranger to terra firma…he also completed an Appalachian Trail thru-hike in 2007.

MEGHAN WOLFGRAM: A recent DePauw University grad-turned entrepreneur from Palm Bay, FL, most of Meghan’s time is spent working on her company, Swift Paws Lure Coursing Equipment  (training dog agility, riding and training horses). Meghan’s business keeps her busy, holding monthly lure coursing events in her hometown and traveling for all sorts of shows and seminars. That said, all work and no play…well, we know. Meghan lives to be active; “I’ll try anything that gets me outside and moving. I scuba dive, read, hike, camp, garden, and do all sorts of crazy things on, off, and behind a boat”. In the midst of all of that, she is also trying to hone her skills at rock climbing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kayaking, sailing, and the list goes on!

From everyone at SylvanSport, we would like to send out a BIG congratulations to our 3 big winners and a heart-felt thank you to everyone who entered the contest, supported our sponsors, and showed us the love!!! Remember to follow us Facebook or Twitter to keep updated on their adventures!
